About Us ::
Taper-Lok©
is a connection specialist, providing a small, lighter weight,
high integrity sealing technology. The Taper-Lok© technology
excels in extreme conditions, such as: high pressure
and temperature, cryogenics, and all hard to hold volatiles
and low molecular weight gasses.
The powerful
differentiate of the Taper-Lok© connection is in the design
of the tapered seal ring geometry. The affective sealing
surfaces of the seal ring, contact both the male and female
flange walls, creating a substantial wide area seal. The
Taper-Lok© geometry provides as much as 20 times more sealing
surface area compared to the single point or line contact
seal of the conventional ANSI, API (RTJ) and clamp-type
designs.
Taper-Lok©
connections are "Self-Energizing" connection
by ASME, Appendix 2, Section 8, code qualifications, the
required bolt loads for the operating conditions are only
necessary to resist the hydrostatic end forces exerted
by the maximum working pressure on the area bounded by
the outside diameter of the seal ring gasket. In practical
application as the bolts are tightened to the recommended
pre-load, the seal ring is placed in hoop compression and
slides into the female flange pocket. As the seal ring
is seated into the female pocket a restoring force exists
in the seal ring and the seal ring acts much like that
of a compressed spring. In that the action of "Bolt-Up" seats
and compresses the seal ring, the complementing action
of being "Self Energized"
under operating conditions, imparts an even tighter seal,
as the internal pressure acts on the wedge shape geometry
of the seal ring creating greater tension on the wide area
sealing surfaces, effectively creating a leak free, zero
fugitive emissions connection.
