:: SELF ENERGIZED ::
Taper-lok Seals are self-energized. The
working pressure of the system benefits the sealing integrity
acting on the bottom of the seal ring, wedging it against
the converging male and female seal surfaces. Because
of this wedging action, the higher the working pressure,
the tighter the seal.
One of the many advantages of
a pressure-energized seal is the reduced bolt load required
to seal the connection. This not only results in smaller
bolts and lighter loads, it also allows the size of the flange
to be substantially reduced. The
Taper-Lok© Bolt load is less than an ANSI because the Taper-Lok©
gasket is a self energized seal. With a pressure energized
seal the bolt pre load must be equal to the separation loads
due internal pressure. Extra load to seat the seal
is not required as with an ANSI. This reduction in
bolt load has the desired effect of reduced bolt size, reduced
flange diameter and reduced flange thickness. |
